How To De-stress After Work? | Quick Tips That Actually Works

how to destress after work

When I was into a 9 to 5 job, I used to read a lot of articles on "How to destress after work?". The worst part was I never tried to implement the tips and tricks. After working for almost 10 years, one day I got extremely stressed because of a rare of the rarest situation. You will not believe but I wasn't able to cope up with the stress and I literally fainted in the corridor of my corporate office.

Though I took some stress-relieving medicine for instant relief still I was looking for some permanent solution. I was very well aware of the fact that I am growing old and with the passage of time, my roles and responsibilities in the professional and personal life will only increase.

Gone are the days when you can forget the office work when you have left the office.  If we talk about the Americans, the stress level has increased tremendously. Financial instability, personal problem, job insecurity, and health problem are some of the very common reason for stress.

Whether it's your school, college or job, you can't deny a stressful situation and its implication. But anyway, here we are gonna talk about the tips and tricks that you can follow to not only reduce your stress but also prepare yourself for the next day.

Before digging into the solution, let's discuss some of the very common reason for a stressful day at the workplace. If you are gonna find out the stressor, getting de-stressed is much easier.

Long Working Hours: Definitely, long working hours at times irritates you. Our mind is designed to concentrate on work for a particular duration, after that just like our body, the mind also needs rest.

Though we can't get away with the long working hours still we can take some frequent breaks to regain energy and concentration. Sometimes a short nap can also do wonders.

Don't get scared of long working hours, it is there to stay. Prepare your mind and body to respond in the best possible way.

Talking to your friends and family, having a good lunch, watching short clips, listening to soft music and so on can be of great help. In most of the office, you can do all of these activities.

Project Deadline: Indeed, a much talked about and overhyped stressful situation. There are times when we are overloaded with work and we don't have any option but to deliver in the timeline. I can't deny the possibility that things aren't working as per the expectation. Everyone's eye in the office is on you. The worst part is that you are getting more stressed because you think that you will lose your job or your colleague will criticize you in case the project is not gonna be successful.

Trust me, this is the wrong approach. Rather than thinking about what people will say, the best thing that you can do is to concentrate on your project and give the best possible output.

Neither you have command nor control on the interference of the project deadline, then why to take stress today for something that may or may not happen tomorrow.

It's always better to live in the present and be optimistic about your future.

Conflict of Interest: Again, a very common situation in corporate life. There are instances when you will work day and night to give the output and finally, the credit will be taken by someone else. Maybe your BOSS or your colleague. You will feel like a complete loser. Frankly speaking, most of the people in this situation get de-motivated and lose interest in the job.

What is the solution?

First, try to understand, you are not the only one who is a victim of this situation. A lot of people are on the same page as yours. Try to see the positive aspect of it. Maybe someone took your credit but the learning will always remain with you. Down the line, some time and somewhere in your life, definitely, you are gonna get benefited. If you have learned some skill, it will for sure be of great help. Just keep yourself motivated and moving.

Stressful Relation with your Boss: Again, it is bound to happen. Maybe in your first job, you got a good boss but it will not be the same in the entire professional career. You will have to understand that over a period of time, you will be working under different bosses with a different personality trait. It is very difficult for anyone to match all the expectation of all the bosses in the entire professional career.

So, be aware that conflicts are bound to happen. Stressful situation and days are part and parcel of your life. The best that you can do is to learn the skill to de-stress your self.

A lot of times, it happens in a professional career that there is an altercation with the boss. Even though you are logically right but your boss will not accept your suggestion and ask you to follow his order.

During the appraisal time, you may get disheartened because even after giving your best you are neither getting the credit nor the monetary benefits.

Sometimes, conflict can be because of a very silly reason. For Example, you need to leave due to some personal problem, but your boss is not ready to approve your leave request.

These are just a few examples and there can be numerous scenario where you have to face the anger of your boss.

The best thing that you can do is to prepare yourself mentally for a stressful situation.

We have discussed a few situations which can lead to stress. Now, we will share some tips and tricks to get you de-stressed after the long hours of work.

            How to de-stress after work?

Adult Coloring Book: This is perhaps one of the best ways to de-stress yourself. When you face a stressful situation, your body goes into "fight" or "flight" mode. As a result, there will be an increase in the blood pressure, heartbeat, and sugar level in your body.

Using an adult coloring book can reduce stress. When you are sketching or drawing, your mind forgets the stressful situation and concentrates on the drawing. As a result, cortisol aka "stress hormones" level decreases in your body and the normal state is restored.

Drinking Stress Relief Tea: Including certain types of tea in your daily routine can help you de-stress. The best result you can get if you take a hot shower after a stressed day followed by a cup of green or other stress-relieving tea.
I will recommend you to take at least three cups of tea every day.

Meditation: The meditation and yoga are of great help when it comes to de-stressing yourself. Including yoga in your daily routine can help you cope better with stress. At times, you can help yourself to get de-stressed instantly by taking a deep breath.

Including Fruits in your Diet: Including certain types of fruits in your diet can help you reduce the cortisol and adrenaline level in your body. These fruits if taken on a regular basis can work great. Though we can't ignore stressful situation still we can prepare ourselves to cope up with these situations in the best possible way.

Before we discuss some other tips and tricks, let's have a look at some of the handpicked articles.

I will never encourage anyone to use narcotics drugs or alcohols to de-stress. I have seen a lot of employees taking help of alcohol to get relief from stress. Unfortunately, these people aren't aware of the fact that narcotic drugs can only bring relief for an epigrammatic span of time.
The worst part is the addiction to alcohol. If you get addicted to alcohol, things can become worst. Not getting alcohol can bring more stress and problems.

The products mentioned in my article are some of the well-researched products that can help you to de-stress. Some of these products can be used in the office also. Choose your favorite songs and music and make a playlist. After coming office, you can hear the music. Trust me, your favorite song will always act as a stress reliever.

Turning Off Phone: I will advise you to turn off your phone before you are going to bed. Researchers have proved using phones or tablets in the late-night can hinder your sleeping habit. The cell phone light may negatively impact your sleep.

Watching Cartoons: If you love watching cartoons like Tom and Jerry etc, then definitely watch it after a stressful day. These cartoons will make you laugh and will drastically reduce the stress hormones in your body. Laughing is a great healer and natural medicine for stress.

Reading Books: I have personally tried this method to reduce my stress level. I love reading fictional books, so whenever I feel stressed I will try to read some novels about love or fiction. You may like some other genre, it's perfectly fine until you read a book of your choice.

Cooking: I love experimenting with cooking. If I have a stressful day, then I will definitely try to cook something delicious for me. In order to cook, I have to check out some videos on youtube. In the layman language, I get involved so much in cooking that I forget to think about the stressful situation. Trust me, cooking is fun.
