Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms Domestic Violence

post traumatic stress disorder symptoms due to domestic violence

Already we have discussed PTSD in the last two articles. In this article, we are gonna talk about PTSD caused due to domestic violence. A lot of people across the globe are suffering from this problem and the worst part is it's increasing. I have done a lot of research and all the discussion will be based on facts and figures.

A lot of people talk openly about stress, anxiety, and other mental illness but when it comes to home violence people prefer to either ignore talking about it or hide the fact that they are victims of home violence.

You may find that in many cases women are the victims of home violence but there has been a sharp increase in the home violence against men as well.

Do you know when home violence became illegal in America?

In 1920, beating wife was completely banned in America. But during the women movement in the 1970's the domestic violence on women gained attention.

Before we discuss in detail, Let's have a look on the handpicked article from the blog.
Let's throw some lights on the mind-boggling fact and figure related to domestic violence.

  • In the United States on an average of 24 people per minutes is the survivor of stalking, rape or physical violence. If we calculate this number over a period of one year then the number will cross 12 million.
Can you imagine the rate of damage?

  • In the United States, nearly one in four women and one in seven men have experienced severe physical violence by their intimate partners in the lifetime.
  • The presence of a gun during the domestic violence increases the homicide for women by whopping 500 %.
  • Nearly half of women and men in the united states will experience psychological aggression by the intimate partners in their lifetime.
According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, women experience around 4.8 million intimate partner-related assault and rape every single year. The worst part is less than 20 percent of these battered women seek medical treatment for the physical assault.

As per the National Crime Victimization Survey- which includes crimes that were NOT reported to the police, 232960 women were raped in the year 2006. It means more than 600 women were raped every day.

Mostly the women targeted in the home violence belongs to a minority group or are from lower income group. If we talk in terms of age then the target women are mostly in the age bracket of 24 years or less.

If we talk about race then American-African women get assaulted more than the white women and at the same time, American-Indian women are at a higher risk of home violence and physical assault as compared to any other race.

The impact of home violence on the children can be terrifying and traumatic. If exposed to the home violence for a longer period of time these children can suffer from the post-traumatic stress disorder and as a result, the overall development of the children gets retarded.
